Cheers to Life's Unexpected Turns

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. Helen Keller

Jeeping Trip

I can not download the pictures - for some reason this site won't take them. It feels weird doing my "blog" without a picture. Oh well....

Sabbath my "destination" for my trip was Desert Mountain. I went south to Nephi and then west. Took a side road that led to Jericho Junction. To the southwest there are the sand dunes.

I went around Jericho Ridge and continued westward toward Desert Mountain. There were a few things that surprised me as I had never gone anywhere but the sand dunes in all the time that I have lived here. First the number of mountain ranges that were on the north, east and west. Second - sooooooo many roads and third - it was the first time I lost count of the number of redtailed hawkes that I saw. The beauty is so different than that of the high mountains. I know that in the middle of the summer I would be hard pressed to enjoy any of it because I do not like the heat but with the cool weather I had time to pause and enjoy. Saw several herds of antelope too. Beautiful creatures . Their gait is totally different from that of a deer.

My plan was to go to Desert Mountain and then head back east and end up by Eureka and from there head on into Santaquin and north to home. Well, I kinda got lost. I knew which way was noth, south etc but I was not quit sure which road of many to take so I headed what I thought was the general direction to get back to a main road. When all was said and done I ended up on the northern outskirts of Dugway Proving Ground. The fun part of that was I saw a lot of neat places and I saw two redtailed hawks chasing after the same jack rabbit. The rabbit was glad I came along but the two hawks weren't too happy about loosing their supper.

I also went down this awesome canyon and through a neat little town called Rush Valley. I wouldn't mind living there but it is a fair way to work from that quaint little town.

So I guess I had better get me a GPS and quit putting it off. I want to spend a lot of time out there this winter. I am sure after I am out there some I will learn the land marks rather quickly.
There is so much history out there. I also want to buy a metal detector and use it in some of the spots that I go to.

Hopefully I can download the pictures next time. I have one of a antelope and one of the many mountains out that way.

Now back to reality - I have to go write a paper that is due.
